Year Long Workshop:
Starts June 1st, 2010 and runs through June 30th, 2011
We will take a break for the month of December to allow everyone time to enjoy the Holidays.

If you have recently purchased the book titled: “Exploring the Latest Trends in Mixed Media Art” "Vol. II" (recycled, reinspired, reinvented) By: Sherre Hulbert and Cynthia Powell (me), than you are invited to participate in a FREE year long workshop, hosted by the authors of this book. That’s right- the authors are the hosts, but also two of the instructors! (The list of instructors is being added to daily!) Some of our co-artists/project designers, who have artwork featured in this fabulous mixed media book, will be available to assist us when their project(s) is featured as one of the workshop projects of the month.

Currently we have-10 INSTRUCTORS!!!: Sherre Hulbert, Cecilia Swatton, Martha Ricks-Bond, Jacquie Roland, Laura Campbell, Reva Solomon, Lesley Venable, Susan Chong, Sharon House and myself, on the list of guest artists-instructors.
This workshop will take place in a private, yahoo group set up strictly for this workshop. No outside advertisements will be allowed, except for the instructors, who will be allowed to update the class of their current classroom schedule and art retreat venues. The Instructors may also provide links to their etsy shops or other websites where they may have products available to purchase. No purchase is required to participate in this workshop, except the book listed above. Please make sure it is “Vol. II” that you purchase for this workshop! (See Photo!)

The book provides a full list of supplies for each art project, as well as step by step instructions to create them. We will be working our way through the book, cover to cover and each month you will have a variety of 3-4 art projects to create. Based on your time frame, you may do one art project or all of the projects selected for that month. Each month 3-4 art projects showcased in the book, will be featured. New ideas and variations of supplies will be discussed, to enable the members to utilize self-expression when creating each of these art projects. You are not required to follow the step by step instructions, but encouraged to put your own individual spin on things. There are 46 diverse art projects showcased-a wide variety of materials used, such as: vintage book covers-rhinestone jewelry-buttons-rusty metals-lots of recycled materials-fabrics-laces-and some canvas. I would think that these art projects would be more in line with art that you would give as gifts or keep for your own home. Of course if you have an etsy shop-you might be able to make a few $$ too!

There are some jewelry pieces in the book, but most of the projects are not jewelry related. The projects are Assemblages, Decorated Photo Frames, Treasure Boxes, Gypsy Wagon, Fabric Collage, Recycled Projects, Indoor and Outdoor Décor, Clothing, Wall-hangings, House-Warming Gifts, Canvas Structures and Paper Projects.

On the books front-cover-there are photos of: Toni’s Gypsy Wagon, Jacquie’s Wall-Hanging, Linda’s Altered Book, Sherre’s Assemblage, Leslie’s Recycled Wooden Hanger project and my Tin Beads. Some of the techniques include: plaster, glass etching the easy way, foiling, texturing using a variety of supplies, some wire-work, easy silk screening, easier stenciling, duct tape finesse and lots more! All of the art projects we will be doing in this workshop will make fabulous hand-made gifts for you to give as presents to family or friends at Christmas! They are all flexible enough to be adapted to materials you have on hand. (Most, if not all of the projects represented in the book have used recycled materials, which are easily obtainable.) You will be playing along with a bunch of artists who are all coming together in this private yahoo group, to learn and to have fun together-creating some new, original, unique projects. Hope to see you there!

If you haven't ordered your book yet-here is the code we gave out a few months ago! You can still receive a $5 discount on “Volume II” for a limited time by using this code: ATTDLREE. This applies to purchases made through Createspace only!

In order that I can get everyone registered and enrolled in the private group efficiently-please e-mail me at: powellcynthia@comcast-dot-net when you have received your book. An easy question about the book will be sent to you-simply send your answer back. If you answered correctly, you will be sent the link to join the private book group. Once you are a member of this Yahoo group-there will be a fun project listed in the files that you are welcome to create while you are waiting for things to get under-way. This workshop begins June 1st and there will be a list of scheduled art projects posted in the files for you to start collecting your supplies! See you soon!

Another Contributing Artist had this to say:
This collection of projects -- 46 in all -- includes titles like Garden Glamor Apron, Flowerful Crocheted Hat, Gone Are the Days Altered Coffee Table, and Shop in Style Market Bag ... and this is only a sample! Bright, large photos led the way as the book invited me to make old wooden hangers look gorgeous; to jazz a garment way up with a lush neckline of silk screened peacock feathers under beaded lace and loops of ribbon; to create a plethora of unique wall-hanging and shelf-sitting artworks; even to create an eye-catching, weatherproof sculpture for the garden. The ideas in this book could keep an artist busy, productive and happy for years!-Cecilia Swatton
